BPD Arrest Suspect in U.B. Robberies

Buffalo Police have arrested one suspect in connection with a string of robberies targeting U.B. students in and around the University District. Police arrested 18 year old Joseph Elston of Buffalo and charged him with robbery in the first degree, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal use of a firearm. Buffalo Police believe that Elston and one other suspect may be responsible for at least a half dozen robberies beginning in February of this year.

On the evening of February 28th, Buffalo Police believe that Elston and another suspect robbed a female student at gunpoint on Northrup. The suspects made off with her debit bank card and her pin number. Later that evening, the suspects used the victim's bank card to withdraw an undisclosed amount of money from the HSBC Bank at 3107 Bailey Avenue.

Buffalo Police established a pattern to the robberies and immediately added extra patrols in the area. Those patrols remain in effect as the search for a second suspect continues. Police also released bank surveillance video on March 11th showing the two suspects. Shortly after the video was shown on T.V. and in the newspaper, Buffalo Police began getting leads which directly led to the arrest of Elston. If anybody has information regarding the second suspect, they're asked to call the Confidential Tip Call Line at 847-2255.
