Amherst man arrested in death of Javon Jackson

After an intense investigation by Buffalo Police Homicide Detectives, they’ve arrested a suspect in connection with the shooting death of 23 year old Javon R. Jackson of the Bronx, N.Y.

The incident happened Sunday morning, May 10th, at around 3:15am on Main Street near Lisbon Avenue; just one day after the victim had graduated from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Homicide Detectives have arrested 20 year old DaMario Cordelius, of Amherst, N.Y., and charged him with murder in the 2nd degree.

Jackson, who lived off campus on Lisbon Avenue, was rushed to the Erie County Medical Center, by ambulance, where he was pronounced dead.

Mayor Byron W. Brown said, “Today’s arrest is the combination of the cutting edge technology of the City’s new surveillance camera system and tireless police work by the finest Homicide Squad in the nation. This Administration and this Police Department will not rest until all are brought to justice in connection with this tragic homicide”.

Commissioner H McCarthy Gipson added, “Our Detectives have put together this case piece by piece. Their tireless work has led to this arrest. The video from our camera system has been invaluable in this case”.

Detectives are still actively working the case and are asking anyone with information to call the Buffalo Police Department Homicide Squad at 851-4466 or the anonymous TIPCALL number – 847-2255.
