BPD Arrest Suspect in House Party Homicide

Buffalo Police have arrested a 16 year old suspect in connection with the fatal shooting that occurred on Beiter Walk early Monday morning, May 18th.

Homicide Detectives arrested Ivan Lucas of Congressional Walk and charged him with murder in the 2nd degree in the shooting death of 23 year old Christopher Dozier of that Beiter Walk address. Dozier also listed an address on Schreck St. in the city.

Detectives believe that Lucas shot Dozier during an altercation at a house party at around 2:15am Monday morning. Police say the incident happened inside of a home located in the first block on Beiter Walk. Dozier was declared dead at the scene after being shot in the chest area.

Police had developed Lucas as a person of interest in the shooting death and issued a pick up order for his apprehension. He surrendered at Buffalo Police Headquarters, in the company of family and clergy, this afternoon.

Detective Sgt. David Lillis and Detectives Mark Lauber, Noreen Walsh and Mary Evans led the investigation, and made the arrest.

“The shooting death was the apparent result of an argument involving the victim and the suspect”, Chief of Detectives Dennis J. Richards said.
