BPD Announce Two Arrests in Recent Homicides

16 year old Charged in Latest Murder

Mayor Byron W. Brown and Interim Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda announced today that homicide detectives have made two arrests in 2010 cases.

The most recent case is the February 13th stabbing death of a teenager on Buffalo’s far East Side.

Homicide detectives have arrested 16 year old Dontae E. Coble of Herman Street and charged him with murder in the 2nd degree in connection with the death of 18 year old Daniel Smalls of Lisbon Avenue.

On the night of February 13th, at approximately 11pm, Buffalo police responded to a disturbance call in the 2200 block of Genesee Street.

When police arrived, they found Smalls had been stabbed outside of 2204 Genesee St. The victim was later pronounced dead at ECMC.

Detectives were able to crack the case when they located Coble hiding out in an upper apartment in the 300 block of Herman Street just before 11am Monday, March 8th.

Detective Sergeant Daniel F. Rinaldo led the investigation. He was assisted by Detectives Michael Acquino, Michael A. Mordino, Mary E. Gugliuzza and Noreen E. Walsh.

Buffalo police have also made an arrest in connection with the death of 72 year old Lincoln Burks of Cornwall Avenue, who was found dead inside of his home on January 29th.

After a month long investigation, Detective Sergeant Jonathan D. Walton and Detectives Antonio Borrelli, Patrick J. Judge and Mario T. Pratts arrested 33 year old April Stone of Buffalo.

Detectives credit City Surveillance cameras with playing a key role in solving the case.

Of the eight homicides this year in the city, three have been cleared including the shooting death of Ricky Costner Jr. at Merge Restaurant on Delaware Avenue in mid January.
