Man Charged in Fatal Stabbing of Girlfriend

Buffalo Police Homicide Detectives have officially charged 63 year old Juan Castro of Buffalo in connection with the fatal stabbing of his girlfriend on Monday, January 17th.

The incident happened just after noon time in the 400 block of Normal Avenue.

Detectives charged Castro with: Murder in the 2nd Degree, Assault in the 1st Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon.

Detectives say Castro stabbed 45 year old Maria Pagan and her 15 year old daughter, Zayra Pagan.

Maria Pagan was declared dead at the scene.

Zayra Pagan remains at Women and Children's Hospital.

A short time after the double stabbing, police attempted to apprehend Castro just a few houses away from the original incident. Officers repeatedly asked Castro to drop his weapon. The suspect refused police orders and began advancing towards the officers with at least one weapon in hand.

At that point, an officer discharged his weapon striking Castro.

Castro remains at ECMC in police custody and listed in serious condition.
