July-25-2012- Detectives say the victim and defendant were best friends

Mayor Byron W. Brown and Police Commissioner Daniel Derenda announced today an arrest in connection with the fatal shooting early Sunday morning of a 23 year old Buffalo man.

Buffalo police homicide detectives have arrested 22 year old John Carney of Buffalo and charged him with Murder in the 2nd degree and Assault in the 1st degree in the double shooting that claimed the life of his best friend Jeremy Lott and also injured 26 year old Lareecea Love of Buffalo.

Mayor Brown said, “This is a senseless tragedy involving good friends. My sympathy goes out to the families involved and again I implore our young people to put the guns down”.

The incident occurred Sunday morning, September 23rd at approximately 2:15am in the 1200 block of Fillmore Avenue. Detectives say the two victims were standing outside smoking a cigarette when Carney approached them and started shooting.

Commissioner Derenda said, “Shortly after the incident police were able to track down the gun and with the help of tips and other information, detectives later were able to make an arrest”.

Love has been treated and released from ECMC.

Homicide detectives Mary Gugliuzza, Michael Mordino and Richard Wagstaff handled the investigation.
