BPD Make Arrest in South Buffalo Homicide

Buffalo Police homicide detectives have made an arrest in connection with an incident that occurred on November 8th at approximately 3:30am.

Late Thursday afternoon, Homicide Squad detectives picked up 26 year old Nicholas J. Finnegan, and have charged him with causing the death of Russ A. Ross, on Kenefick Avenue last month.

Rescue personnel and "A" District police had responded to a call, and found the victim unconscious on the ground. The victim either fell or was thrown from a second story porch, police learned. Ross was taken by ambulance to Erie County Medical Center, and succumbed to his injuries on November 20th.

The death was ruled a homicide, by the Erie County Medical Examiner's office on Thursday.

A District Detective Sergeant John F. McGrath began an investigation, and it was turned over to Homicide Squad detectives upon the victim's death.

Finnegan was charged with murder in the second degree and was arraigned without bail in Buffalo City Court this morning.

Homicide Squad Detectives Christopher F. Sterlace, Salvatore Valvo and David J. Rambino continued the investigation, leading to the suspect's arrest last night.
